Comas, Peru

The City Comas is a northern suburb of Lima, Peru that has grown from 800,000 to 2 million in the past three years. The population continues to swell as people move out of the rural areas nearer to the city hoping to find work. The projected population for 2011 is 5 million!
The People The people are very poor, with an average household income of $150/month. Many people have no more than a 6th grade education and lack employable skills. Other struggles include a high rate of teen pregnancy and absent fathers from the home.

Our Ministry Partner We are working alongside Iglesia Alianza Cristiana y Misionera de Comas (Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Comas) and their pastor Angel Barrientos.
History The Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Comas was planted in 1994, and now has over 1,000 active adult believers. Although this body of believers has little in terms of resources, it is aggressively evangelistic and discipleship oriented, having planted 5 daughter churches in the past 5 years.
Future Vision Between now and 2020, the church in Comas, together with those in northern Lima, plan to plant 20 churches in the area, send 20 missionaries throughout Peru and 20 to other countries. Towards this goal, they have sent one missionary to a remote area in Peru and are in the process of sending two families to other countries (Turkey and Spain).

History of Fellowship's Involvement in Peru
|
|
|
God Ordained Partnership With the first “exploratory” visit in the summer of 2002, there was no doubt that God had ordained the partnership between Fellowship and the Christian Missionary Alliance (CMA) Church in Comas, Peru. Their leadership and vision is strong and their ministries are aligned with ours on all fronts. As of April, 2007, Fellowship has taken 14 additional mission teams to Comas, each meeting specialized ministry needs as defined by the church there.
Many Diverse Teams These diverse teams have led and participated in women’s, men’s, marriage, apologetics, youth, family, worship, and pastors conferences. They have led multiple kids clubs, participated in “mass” wedding and vow renewal ceremonies, hosted a large community-wide concert, led worship at various churches, taught and performed in elementary schools, high schools, and universities, led business training seminars and held TV and radio interviews. They have preached, baptized, shared their stories, danced, sang and performed drama in church services in various locations in the Lima area. They have visited and prayed with families in need in their homes and in hospitals and participated in neighborhood clean ups and fed the poor. These teams have loved our family in Comas in very personal ways and they have loved us back, Beyond Belief.
Financial Support Ministries that our church has supported financially include: pastor salaries, seminary and technical student training, church and school construction projects, computers and sound equipment for the church, school supplies and library books, and material and missionary support. We also started their benevolence fund in 2004 and have kept it operational since then.
